Goulbourn is a vibrant community of villages situated in the western portion of the City of Ottawa. It includes the growing urban centres of Stittsville and Richmond, and the smaller rural villages of Munster and Ashton. First established as a military settlement in 1818, Goulbourn is one of the oldest communities in the Ottawa area. The Goulbourn Museum’s exhibits chronicle 19th and 20th Century rural township life, with particular emphasis on the 100th Regiment of Foot, Goulbourn’s soldier-settlers. A Children’s Centre allows young visitors to try on period clothing, and engage in hands-on activities that foster an appreciation of local heritage. For those interested in researching genealogy and local history, our History Centre contains many valuable resources. Established in 1990 by its parent body, the Goulbourn Historical Society, the Museum is housed in former municipal buildings: the 1872 Township Hall and the 1961 Clerk's Building. Guided tours and history presentations are available by appointment for schools, seniors, and community groups. Staff and volunteers are on hand to explain our exhibits and answer your questions.
